One of my biggest joys in life is reading. Reading can take you away to so many magical places — and they can be real or make believe. I like both and enjoy reading fiction and non-fiction alike. While I can tear through a great fiction book in no time at all, I would say I probably read a lot more non-fiction books simply because I enjoy so many different topics and love learning from others.

One of those topics, of course, is travel.

Since my husband and I are full-time travelers, I enjoy finding a good book written by other travel enthusiasts or even just a good “what to see” book for a certain location we might want to visit. I’ve been able to find some great things for us to visit as we travel around the country because of things I’ve read in some of these books and I’ve also just enjoyed the stories of other adventurers like ourselves.

It’s always nice to know others enjoy something like we do and we’re not alone in our crazy lifestyle. ;)

If you love to read books like this as well, here are a few I enjoyed and recommend.

  1. Amazing Adventures of a Nobody by Leon Logothetis
  2. Packing Light by Allison Fallon
  3. Ten Years a Nomad by Matthew Kepnes

These books are all travel related but they’re very different in the message they’re sharing and what you get out of each will be different. The first book, Amazing Adventures of a Nobody, is all about kindness. Leon goes on an adventure and forces himself to completely rely on the kindness of strangers. There are some great stories in this book and it really shows how kindness can go a long way.

Packing Light communicates the idea that we have a lot more “stuff” in life than we really need. This was something I learned as our journey began to take shape and we had to get rid of almost everything we owned. It was HARD at first, but then…I discovered I didn’t need all that stuff. It was very freeing to know that we didn’t have a lot of things holding us down. We could move from place to place and not have to worry about getting “home” to all of our stuff.

In Ten Years a Nomad, I was able to read amazing stories about traveling the world. There are so many great things within the United States to see and I love traveling within our country, but there is a whole world out there of amazing cultures and so much beauty. We’ve been able to experience that on a smaller scale than he has (we’ve traveled to 16 countries total so far) but in this book you get to read stories from places all over the world that you might have only thought of traveling to at this point in your life. It definitely awakens you to the possibilities!

In order to learn as much as we can about life, about this world we live in, and about all the amazing things out there, sometimes we need to read/hear other people’s stories and what better way to do that than finding a great book to enjoy. These are just a few of the many that I’ve read and I will continue to look for more great ones out there as well!

Have you read a great travel book? If so, I would love to hear your recommendation. :)
