We're Building Road Life Magazine on Substack
A publication dedicated to modern day adventures and people who love to travel.
A few years ago when we sold almost everything we owned to travel the world, we decided to blog about our road life adventures.
At first I launched our website on WordPress because I’d been a designer in this space for 12 years and it’s what I knew best, but despite my expertise with this platform I grew tired of it and decided to move on.
The next step was transferring our content and publishing on Substack because it was so simple and free to use. There were things I liked and disliked but I eventually settled on Ghost because it seemed the SEO was a better option over there and we had more flexibility for publishing our content, including multiple tiers for pricing.
It’s always a difficult decision to choose the best publishing platform, and as content creators, I think it’s easy to always second guess ourselves. There are just so many pros and cons to each!
Why come back to Substack?
The past year I continued to work on my passion project, a 101st Airborne Division website dedicated to the heroes who served in the Screaming Eagles and WWII. After spending months of trying to build our community on Ghost and paying $25 per month, it was apparent it was not going anywhere.
As Substack improved and implemented new exciting features, I moved that website content here and started over. I immediately began to fall in love with this platform and the community of creators here. And interestingly our own community of Screaming Eagles enthusiasts took off. Pun intended! 🦅
With these things in mind, and the new launch of Road Life Magazine, we decided this publication should also be on Substack.
Not only will this make life easier for us as publishers, doing so provides some fantastic benefits for our community of adventurers and travelers. Additionally we can bring on other contributors to share their stories.
Starting today you’ll be able to read articles we’ve published the past four years and there are loads of new articles coming. Then we’ll begin exploring new ideas for 2025, all of which can be made possible here.
In the meantime, please consider subscribing to this publication. It’s 100% free and an awesome way to get involved with planning your own epic adventures!
