Ten years ago I worked with a very popular food blog out of San Diego. The website was absolutely fantastic, gaining the attention of huge media outlets nationally, while earning thousands of subscribers every week.

What impressed me though wasn't the growth of the online publication - as phenomenal as it was. Rather it was the owner never having to pay for meals or beer because local restaurants were begging him to come and do reviews.

This guy made money from his blog and he got free food! #HellYeah

His success was the biggest reason I launched a travel blog right before we sold our house and took off for the open road because if he could do it maybe we could too.

So Donetta and I started writing about our adventures, trying to build a community and interest around traveling while hoping to get deep discounts or free comps for hotel rooms, food, beer, and anything else we could review. And sometimes it worked really well.

Because we love traveling and the digital nomad style so much it made perfect sense to keep investing in our idea as much as possible.

Since 2020, we've been slowly plugging away at our blog while meeting awesome people from all over the globe. Connecting with a community of kindred spirits and hearing their "road life" stories has been one of the coolest aspects of what we do and something that brings greater meaning to our own lives.

While we worked hard on our previous brands Hotel Crashers and Life from the Road, it became very clear I wanted to do more than just be another standard travel blog focused solely on us.

My vision was to create something to inspire the dreamers in all of us to get out and experience the ride of a lifetime while sharing the amazing stories of others who have lived their own road life adventures. Story telling is a powerful but lost art form these days and I wanted to get back to that.

This brings us to the present.

A New Name and a Larger Vision.

The website names we used in the past were fun but they also had limitations, some of which we could never overcome. Why invest so much time into an idea that will never work long term?

In my mind, I wanted a name we could brand and that would have actual legitimacy as a business, but also one that would be applicable to the larger vision we have for the future.

Road Life Magazine gives us that opportunity.

It opens up a wider range of lifestyle experiences, one that isn't limited by the mode of transportation, the amount of time spent on the open road, or even geographical or financial constraints.

It allows us share the incredible stories of wanderers, explorers, and adventurists from all walks of life in a way that's fresh and exciting - taking the focus off the destinations and putting it on the journey.

It gives us a chance to think outside the box and do something unique and different from the typical travel blog with the same regurgitated content that everyone is doing since the pandemic.

Of course there were other great names to choose from but we didn't want to fork over $50,000 to buy them. And despite there being some abandoned social media accounts with our name, we can overcome that marketing challenge in time.

As you might have noticed, we've also updated our website to a new platform and we're making changes online to our social media accounts. There are good things ahead and we can't wait to get to work on them.

Finally I'd like to wrap up by asking you a big favor.
